I wonder if the sticker booth shop would notice if this lovely pink hat mysteriously grew some legs and walked away...?





Clearly, I need to work on my "funny" facial expressions. And yes, I realize that my oversized fobby shirt might not be allowed back onto US soil without significant backlash from those I consider "dear loved ones." I am still working on shopping habits that will allow for stricter control on such impulses.





Sans awesome-pink-hat, friends, this is my new haircut and purple eyes. I had only meant to get my bangs trimmed but somehow ended up with hair 3 inches shorter and a little too close to reoccurring bob nightmares. Look, I managed to do a selca on the first take! Har har.



Now for the fun stuff.

No R's allowed

Fresh outta Beantown, Henry's now in Korealand and already gracing the pages of GQ.

Me: Let's take sticker pics!

H: I'll give you a Korean tip. You have to get rid of your Rs. SticKUH. Not sticKER.

As a creature of habit, I have a relatively difficult time pronouncing 외래어, or loanwords, i.e. American words adopted into everyday Korean speech. I try my best, given the fact that oftentimes, ordering in vanilla ice cream juseyo fashion will result in huh, what did you say, can you repeat that please confusion. Oh, you mean the bahneelah aiyeesoo kooreem? Why didn't you say so in the first place, silly?

Don't get me started on trying to order a chicken buh-guh (버거), using the computuh (컴퓨터), or adjusting the temperature on the eh-uh-con (에어컨). 

Stateside, this is similar to suggesting a night of karaoke to folks not accustomed to the Japanese language. Say what? Karaoke. Come again? Ohhhhhh, kaah-ree-oh-kee.

Or telling them that I used to practice karate karadee.

I suppose practice makes perfect and eventually I'll get accustomed to buh-guh's.

Nope, still a little awkward.

Fishies and hofs

The lovely Malesa & Tim are in town.



Wanting to show them a "typical" hof experience (after a proper dak kalbi introduction), we stopped by a place that was a little too nice to convey the normal hof-like atmosphere - i.e. it was very clean, relatively quiet, well air-conditioned, and they were constantly giving us free food, haha. Unfortunately I don't remember the name of the place, but it's in the same building as Sweets Cafe and the mini video game arcade in Sinchon. (I wouldn't mind checking it out again, thanks to Anna for the rec. ^^)



Completely stuffed, we forged on - troopers that we are - to a random wooden hof nearby. Aha! Watered down beer pitchers, lingering cigarette smells, stale cereal, and yummy kimchee pajun - we found what we were looking for! ; )

Photo booth fun

The one thing I regret from MC's visit was not making a trip to an Asian photo booth store, or whatever they're called these days...



As you can tell, we're photo booth amateurs. It takes a bit of getting used to.

A few notes:

• It usually costs around $5 or $6.
• If coating and cutting aren't included in the price, make sure to get it b/c it's worth the extra 50 cents!
• Pick a good machine - they've all got their different personalities - different camera angles, lighting, backgrounds, layouts, editing functions, etc.
• Make use of the props!
  
• Watch the ticking clock - there never seems to be enough time to design and decorate!
• The more junk you throw on the picture, the better.
  

We clearly weren't satisfied with attempt #1 so we decided to go back again. ^^



It's a little addicting, I have to admit. ^^
